Robert,
Yes you do. When I saw the the "Blackisler" user name, I wondered if it was anybody from SRPC and when I saw you sign off with Robert, I was pretty sure I knew you.
It is a small world when it comes to shooting and even smaller when it comes to forums. Robert how did you find the forum?
Would you believe I found this forum due to chance , I was talking via skype to a friend in the USA who mentioned this forum so I decided to look it up and see what it was like , and was surprised to see that I knew some members on here so decided to have a look around before joining .

Do you know when the first shoot is going be - I'm guessing March? I'm going to see Gordon today about a rifle he is rebarrelling for me and I 'll be asking him about the shoots for this year.
I dont have the dates yet but I will let you no as soon as I get them.

Cheers, but I've just been e-mailling Chris and Andy regarding keys. AGM is set for the 13th (I won't make it - Night Shift) shoot dates to be sorted then. I'll be up at Millnain on the 20th - see you then?

I totally understand what you're saying, but the problem here is the the concept of "young shooters" is at best misunderstood and worst used to bash shooting and/or to further a political agenda.
OK, my fault. By young shooters I meant our under 25's. Those aged 18 up.

Our youngest club shooter is 12 years old, she has been left off the website, so has our 16 year old member.

We do have support in our local paper, where if we write the article, and produce the photo, they will publish. Our sport is making a come back. We just have to be very careful how we display it to the public. This isn't a bad thing, and is no different from other sporting clubs that try to limit bad publicity.

Now that is a thought, submit results and an event overview to our local papers. I wonder how many of the smaller UK clubs would be comfortable with such publicity?

...Ask what the average ages of gun clubs' memberships are...
Good point! In fact I couldn't go into that depth of detail but several of the clubs volunteered that they had found scout groups and schools a good source of members, (ours certainly has) which bodes well. As a result of your posting Rob, I worked out that the average age of our club membership is around 40, but then we've retained quite a number of members for many years - five of them as long as 30 years.

I can only speak of our experience - see the article "PROMOTE YOUR CLUB" halfway down the page at http://psa.bizhosting.com/Interesting.html

You can always ask your shooting organisation for advice when dealing with the media as well.

Our local paper has the range the club is shooting on Saturday, listed in the sporting events for that week, right beside the cricket, hockey and footy. For us this is good, it gets our name in the paper every week, even if it is only small. :)

When one or more of our club members does well at a prize meeting or international event, that's when we write the article.

The general public doesn't understand the importance of badges, a well written article can point out they are a prized trophy. A gold, silver, bronze medallion speaks the language across all sporting events.

Team shirts are also important to show that you are a club, and you are all members. The shirts on display in the local paper also make them recognisable to the public should you be wearing one to get fuel, or pick up something on the way to the range.

I wear my club shirt/ jacket to the kids hockey game on a Saturday morning, because we then head out to the range. I usually ended up fielding questions about rifle shooting from someone on the sidelines.

AC,
Does "The West Australian" still print shooting results? I vaguely remember seeing shooting results in the back pages years ago, in the other sports section.

Club shirts - great idea.

Christel,
This current dicussion seems to have overtaken the orginal purpose of the thread - which was to list local clubs which FB members shoot with. What do you think about having a separate listing for clubs - Region, contact details, displines etc? It could possibly include a list of FB members that shoot with those clubs, so any inquiries about the club/s could be PM'd to FB members of those clubs. Just a thought.

Good idea and well worth starting another thread with Region/Club name and associated forum members

Christel should we also move these last few posts to a new place so the original local clubs thread is not lost?
