Re: Artillery shells
It's not for Chieftain - the calibre there was 120mm
Centurion or Light Gun, possibly Abbot even.

Re: Artillery shells
As I said I would stand corrected the round is from the L7 gun, I thought that was fitted to the early chieftain but it was clearly not, it was never however used with abbot or the light gun although still 105mm they are artillery and use a shorter straight walled case.meles meles wrote:It's not for Chieftain - the calibre there was 120mm

What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.
Re: Artillery shells
IIRC its a practice (solid shot) round for the Royal Ordnance L7 tank gun.
Re: Artillery shells
Thanks for all the info on this, just been looking up the L7 and am amazed at the amount of tanks that this was used on, from its early days with the Centurion right up to the present day. Interesting stuff
