just wondering what our pistol shooters on here think of the experts explanation

'ollyocks.

There's a better explanation out, proposed I think by the FBI / NYPD, who looked into it. There's a film out there somewhere in which the 'hero' shoots a gun in this manner. It's entirely a Hollywood invention but looks cool, and looking cool matters 'in da hood'.

The NYPD are rather content with this shooting style and are keen that 'gangstas' carry on looking cool. It seems that many pistols used in this manner tend to fail to eject cleanly and so jam after only one or two shots, resulting in lives saved.

I understand American gangstas using this method but uk gangstas couldn't because pistols are illegal here in the good old uk?

Exactly, ooman. They have to apply for a FAC and show good reason for ownership, i.e. intimidating the gang in the next postcode / teaching them some respect, and by the time the paperwork comes through they have either grown up and moved on or been stabbed to death.

Some of the comments underneath the story are quite funny. I particularly liked:
