FAC Hold and Buy suggestions?

#1 Post by SevenSixTwo »

Hi all.

I'm just about to bang in my FAC application and I'd like some wisdom on what limits I should ask (beg) for in the Hold/Buy stakes? Calibre will be 7.62/.308 and I'm based in NI.

Anyone have any recent experience? I'm told I should ask for more than I think I'll need because they usually 'talk you down'.

Discipline is target/practical shooting by the way and it's an AR platform.

Wow, that much? I was thinking 600/500 was too high!

OK then, 600/500 x .308 and 600/500 x 7.62. Sorted.

It depends if you are going to be target shooting or quarry shooting. (or a combination of booth) figures in the manual of guidance are significantly lower for quarry shooters.

Ok, thanks for the advice. It's target so I'll go for 6,000,000 / 5,000,000 and see what they say. ;) ;)

Preferably on the ground floor..... tongueout

In England the holding is usually listed as .308/7,62x51 and first FAC holders are typically going to be allowed anywhere from 250/350 buy/hold to 500/600. There are exceptions as all forces are different and there does not appear to be a common approach to this. As an example I started with 500/600 when I first applied for my FAC and ended up with 1000/1200 which is ample for my use. I have a few more on my RFD ticket..
