We didn't attend our shoot today. We felt it inappropriate and spent our time reflecting upon those who paid for our freedom at the cost of their own lives.

We were watching MotoGP, still are, 4 mins to 11 we changed the channel to BBC1 and watched the Sunday Remembrance.

Also watching Moto GP at 10.25 turned over to the BBC to watch all the Cenotaph Ceremony, recorded the remaining races.

I remember the angry emails received in the Range Office a few years ago because there was the sound of shooting somewhere on Bisley camp.

All were from shooters (I do not recall getting any from outside the camp).

I actually got into trouble for responding to one man with the question 'If it means so much to you, why were you at Bisley and not at your local ceremony?'

We had posted a notice and reminded all who came into the office that we would hold a small ceremony outside the main building. Only staff were there.

In latter years, we made it more formal, sounding the hooter for the start of the two minutes silence.

Not stopping or standing still doesn't make a peson any less respectful than if they do, any more than going to church on Sunday makes them religious.

Shooting is part of life and life does go on. Those who have lost loved ones don't wait until 11.11.11 to remeber, they do it every day.

If I'm lucky enough to have someone miss me, I would hope that my shooting friends would name a cup after me and design a course of fire in which a great deal of noise and fun was the greater part.

That said, I stood still for two minutes because, well it isn't much to ask and if nothing else it shows others that you have respect.

Our club shoots at Bisley used to include one in November and our members would stop and stand when the hooter went.

At work on Friday they held their wreath laying ceremony. I warned the engineer and electrician I was working with of my intentions for when the fire alarm sounded. Just in case they didn't observe, I went back to my own cell for the duration.

Two minutes a year for others who have a lifetime of silence...................

I would normally have opened our range this morning but couldn't do so because of illness. The club chairman was intending to open up in my place and sent out an email to the members that shooting would stop just before 11 a.m. and the silence observed, good man.
My daughter came home from school this week disgusted than some of her fellow pupils did not stay silent for the two minutes silence called for in her school assembly. So in the modern way she named and shamed them on the internet such was her disgust.
Last year I noticed the local youth football team still on the field and playing at 11a.m. The ref should have stopped the game, what an example to set shame on them. I noticed that the rugby youth game had finished before then.

Today I shot at 300 yds, observed our two minutes silence at 11am then shot again at 500 yds.

I'm working today as I'm in a part of the world where Sunday is in the working week. Snuck off at 11 a.m. local and had a bit of a quiet reflection of my own.
