I carried one of those for a few weeks in late 1982 until the fun police turned up and made us carry SLRs. Funnily, something similar happened in 91 when we were getting good with RPGs by using up Saddam's leftovers against his leftover vehicles.Blu wrote:Firing a captured Argentinian 7.62 FN Fal.
Most fun - laser designating / controlling on Salisbury Plain for a squadron of A-10s leading 19 Bde (I was the Bde ALO) into a major exercise just after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Abiding memory was Lt Col (now Lt Gen) Freddie Viggers shouting "Yes Yes Yes!" from the top of his command vehicle, parked just behind my Landrover, as the A10s came up the reverse slope inverted, pulled down onto target, rolled upright and opened fire about 200 yds behind the assembled armour ready to advance once Air had softened up the "enemy".
And by the rules the Forward Air Controller owns the weapon, so MY PARTY!
Iain
btw, the Full Danger Area trace for the GAU-8 is 29 000 metres long, which just fits on Salisbury Plain. Takes a lot to get the whole Plain to yourself even for 20 minutes!

M60 in 'Nam (at the Cu-Chi museum). Charlie was friendly when I went but he did know how to charge. $1/rnd
or a Thompson with a stick mag on full auto.

The above post probably contains sarcasm or some other form of attempted wit, please don't take it to heart.

For me the Bren gun - but that's hardly worth mentioning after reading the rest! tongueout

Most fun ? Probably my BSA meteor .22 when I was a lad although I had a blast with my black widow catapult !

Not at all Dougan, I've fired the Bren gun when I was an Army Cadet and later in the Regular Army the LMG 7.62 version, they were both a lot of fun to shoot as well. As long as they brought a smile to your face or you had a laugh doing it everything is good.Dougan wrote:For me the Bren gun - but that's hardly worth mentioning after reading the rest! tongueout
