Depends on how much you work the brass and how often you anneal, I have some 94 Bertrams from an original batch of 100 that have been fired some 12 times but I do religiously anneal them every second firing.

What makes it appear impractical?

Its just another cartridge at the end of the day, BPC's have some extra dimensions due to the fouling properties of black powder but other that that the principles are the same.

Personally I feel a lot safer using BP than smokeless.

Hi Christel,

As promised, find below pictures of my Mk3 Snider, as previously discussed the Mk3 was built as a Snider and not converted, there are numerous arsenal markings on the stock and action body suggesting that it spent most of it's working life in and out of WD store.

As they came into service during a relatively quiet time in the history of our great nation (apart from a few Colonial scraps) and were replaced in front line use by the Mk1 Martini Henry after only 12-15 years of service, most never fired a shot in anger, I believe a good quantity left the Enfield factory in the 1870's and went straight to store, most of these were subsequently sold off after WW1.

History has tended to overlook this cracking rifle.

Cheers, John.
