Yep, just checked all Firearms Acts since '68 and stopped counting the word WEAPON after 20.

It's the nit picking twits I will not put up with...you know, those that fly against the wind, even against the Firearms Acts just to split hairs and try and look big.

So anyone who wants to use the correct nomenclature is a "nit-picking twit"

And when we try to educate the media by teaching them the difference between a rifle cartridge and a shotgun cartridge (I heard the press at Cumbria refer to a shotgun using “Bullets”, we are "nit-picking twits".

And when the media refer to our hunting rifles as “Weapons” and we try to explain that they are NOT weapons, we are "nit-picking twits".

And when we start to teach a novice how to reload and teach him/her the correct terminology i.e. “Stand the case full of powder in its head”, we are "nit-picking twits".

Can’t get my head around this, because any other sport has no problem using the correct terminology without any problem, so why is it such a problem to use it here.
The head of the case is the base, hence “Head separation”.
The copper and lead bit at the front is a “Bullet”.

Agree with you. This is a primarily a shooting related forum and as such we should all strive to where possible use the correct Names of our Sporting Equipment and and ammunition. I agree a Lee enfield No4 could be described as an historical weapon, but how on earth could a dedicated target rifle be described as weapon? And I'll say it again whilst we may all understand what is meant by Heads. It is plain sloppy to go on calling them by that name when we all know that they are bullets. Should we not try and set an example to the ill informed.

Now in my little world and all...it makes sense that we have a primer, a case and a bullet head.
All of it is called a bullet or cartridge.

So to tell the difference between a complete finished built bullet and the front of it I call it a bullet head.

Isn't that logical?

I think this is where all the confusion and mixed logic on this come from.

People thinking bullets and cartridges are the same thing and they are not, a bullet is part of a cartridge not another name for it.

To follow the bullet head logic you could call the bullet the cartridge head.

However the part of the cartridge at the other end from the bullet is called the case head, so we have some conflicting terminology.

Therefore better to call a bullet a bullet as that is what it is rather than making up names for something it isn't.

So as well as stopping calling bullets bullet heads we need to stop refering to cartridges as bullets so that the logic is clear.

Bullets are jacketed condom projectiles (they'll never catch on)

Boolits are cast lead alloy projectiles.

Bullits are boiled sweets.
