In shooting related terms, a
BULLET is :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullet
A bullet is a projectile propelled by a firearm, sling, or air gun. Bullets do not normally contain explosives,[1] but damage the intended target by impact and penetration
While HEAD, however, is as per the the first line of :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centerfire_ammunition
A centerfire cartridge is a cartridge with a primer located in the center of the cartridge case head
...seems to be VERY common to misuse the term head where
bullet is meant, and use the term
bullet when talking about a loaded cartridge!

In graphical terms:
Interesting that the second link shows the correctly labelled parts of a
bullet but does indeed add the word 'head' to describe part of the
bullet

It is not interchangeable when it duplicates another part of the cartridge, it is sloppy practice at best confusing and at it's worst down right dangerous.
We've had this discussion a few times here but to no avail, personally I will not shoot beside anyone that calls bullets heads as I think such poor knowledge of the subject makes them dangerous.
The more I see of new and not so new shooters and reloaders who refuse to listen or learn the more I shoot on my own, I'm fortunate that I have the facilities to be able to do so.
This post modern attitude coupled with the internet peddling information as knowledge and peoples eagerness for it saddens and frightens me. Fortunately we do not see too much of it on here, but it creeps in occasionally.

Personally I blame whoever decided the head and the neck of the case were at opposite ends...

if you wish to be pedantic about it then be my guest, the terms are in general use and they do not cause confusion as much as cause annoyance to you.

I'm firmly in Dromia's camp with this one... it infuriates me when someone calls a bullet a "head".
I always have to say I don't know what they're talking about and remind them the component is called a bullet.
Frankly, if you're going to be that stupid you shouldn't be shooting!
