#1 Post by amyjane »

Hi

I am in the market for a pistol and have been offered a Colt 1911 Mk4 Series 90 .45 plus an extra mag.

Would anybody have an idea what a fair value would be please?

Thanks

Series 90? Are all the '90s not carry guns such as the Compact, Ultra, Defender and Mustang? Full size 1911s are Series 70 or 80. Series 70 was the preferred model in much freer days as the additional firing pin block of the '80 wasn't conducive to a good trigger job.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Please forgive me, but how will you possess this? Is it not S5 'cos ammo is still commercially available? Or do you live in a more understanding part of the UK!!

Thanks folks, yes living in Northern Ireland

Sim G: I believe the series 90 is very similar to the 80 but with slightly improved safety features.

The series 80 "improved" the safety of the series 70. The series 90 utilises captive recoil springs found on the compact and Double Eagle models. Allegedly there are no full size series 90 1911s according to a couple of recognised Colt experts on the 1911 forum. However, the caveat with Colt is "never say never" considering the debacle they went through at the turn of the 21st century...
