260 ackley improved

#1 Post by mag41uk »

In the next 6 months or so I am thinking of getting my 260 AE re barreled.
Idly musing over whether to go for the ackley improved chambering.
I use this rifle for long range - Bisley 1200 yds when available.
The alleged extra 100fps would be beneficial I think.
Downside would be yet another die set and probably more barrel wear.
Any one have any hands on experience?
Presumably I would need a variation for it too?

Ultimately, what it is called on your FAC is down to your licensing team however I have seen .260AI and .243AI held on .260 and .243 slots. I have also shot along side someone shooting and fire forming .260AI and at 1000 yards there was no significant difference between the two for him.

No doubt the Creedmoor fans will comment at this stage.... Personally, I am a big fan of Ackley and Epps and the likes so I know which was I would go :)
