Running Deer

#1 Post by Keithkilvo1 »

Looking for a rifle calibre suitable to shoot the running deer at Bisley. Obviously got to be within the range limits and capable of registering on the electronics.
Is there any member of the BSRC on here that might be able to advise
Cheers

I have used a scoped modded .308 to a .243 stutzen. Its whatever you are comfortable with, bear in mind a rifle is generally designed for static shots, where as shotgun are more for moving targets.

I've shot both 308 and 223 on the Bisley running deer no issues.

BSRC RANGE STANDING ORDERS – Permitted calibres
RUNNING DEER RANGE
The Muzzle Velocity / Muzzle Energy Limits for this Range are:
Max Cal.- .577”
Max M/V - 3275 Ft Sec
Max M/E - 3320ft lbs (4500 J)
Although within the range limits, the use of any .338 calibre is prohibited on all Bisley ranges.
But for Running Deer:-
No muzzle brakes to be used in Firing Point
ISSF start position only permitted for those who have passed Deer Competency.
No calibre greater than 8mm to be used.
Case capacity of round must not exceed that of 30-06.

---------

In general I would say that if you us something that you would legally shoot a deer with in the UK you'll be fine.

I shoot .223 and .308 at BSRC, and see a lot of people shooting .243, .270, .303, .30-06 etc.

The purists occasionally make comments about my .223 being a 'sub-calibre' gun :-)
