so looks like length of mag might be a bit restricted due to lever throw. I wonder if the pistol grip is attached to the lower, or to the lever, would make a lot more sense for it to be part of the lever

I'd hazard a guess that it would be a short stroke lever throw anyway and from looking at the slot for the lever on the bottom of the receiver in the photo the lever will operate regardless of the size of the magazine.

not if theres a long mag actually stopping the lever going foward, remember the mags sit at an angle

From the photo it looked pretty obvious that the lever is seperate from the pistol grip, at least it did to me.My take on it is that you'd release your grip on the pistol grip and push the lever forward with the back of your fingers, then pull it back and grip the pistol grip again for the next shot and repeat.
