Phewww - that was an epic read and a very well done to Karen for her input along with the others that asked and re-asked the questions in an attempt to get a definitive answer.

I strongly suggest all NRA members who could not attend the AGM read the minutes very carefully.

Sounds like an extremely acrimonious meeting.

I've just finished reading them and have to say that I'm embarrassed to be a member.

So much for national shooting organisation it was the minutes of the Bisley shooting ground and the imperial meeting AGM.

The whole council and trustees should in all honour resign after presiding over another financial debacle, as was said at the meeting they should have known what was going on, it is just further evidence of how removed they are from the reality. Seems that resigning when culpable and doing the right thing isn't one of the Bisley traditions.

Also I would like to know what happened to those six managers some of whom obviously lied to council. Was disciplinary action taken for mismanagement? and I certainly hope that there were no payout given to them. If this was not done then that is reason alone for the council and trustees to resign.

I do appreciate that a lot of work has been done by some individuals to balance the budget by cutting posts and expenditure and there was talk of the long haul to get back financially to mend a very broken Bisley. But there was no plan, no vision and almost no enthusiasm for the NRA as a national rifle association.

They are appointing a new chief exec but there seems to be no vision, strategy or policy coming from council and the trustees and that to me is a fatal flaw, unless the governing body has ownership of this then a chief exec will be working in a vacuum and repetition of past failings are almost certain.

Finally there was absolutely no mention of members or membership, that is the most damning of all the many omissions in this sad meeting.

By the way I see it was the Bisley General Meeting not the NRA Annual General Meeting, what does that mean?

There were two meetings. the BGM was held during the Imperial and has separate minutes. I'm halfway through that one currently and it's just as enlightening as the AGM minutes!

Have read through it, and still don't want to join.

Nothing in there suggests to me that they are interested in anybody that doesn't shoot at Bisley on a regular basis. It is good to see they acknowledge the shortcomings of previous post holders and management but there is still an arrogance that just puts me off.

They seem preoccupied by trying to use the money they have as efficiently as possible which is obviously what they should be doing but don't seem interested in driving up membership and the revenue that brings in. It will not have the impact of a large MOD or Police booking but it helps secure the long term future of the NRA surely?
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Arrogance from the highest levels at some stages sums it up very nicely Mike, I need to finish reading the BGM before commenting further.

Interesting (?!) read.......extracting the detail from what was said it would appear that at long last somebody has caught on to the fact that, mainly senior, "management" were very seriously lacking in application. Personally, my association with the NRA goes back a goodly number of years and it has always been my impression that senior management were appointed on the "old boys network" system, retired military and police mainly. This may well have worked in the period from 1860 to about 1960 but was seriously flawed from then on.

The whole financial cock-ups are historic, with certain individuals having far to much say in how money was spent and contracts etc., agreed, there was no tranparancy and no checks......the old boy network at it's finest. There was an almost total disregard for the paying membership.

On the face of it at least this seems to have been halted and a more realistic approach adopted, which is to the good of all.

The dire financial situation will take many years to resolve and spending on infrastructure is going to be severly limited.

I liked the idea put forward by one person that work, say on the ablutions, could be done on a voluntary basis. I will have a look at this myself on my next visit.

I also think that the NRA should look again, as they did about 25 years ago, at corporate sponsorship of events...the Kaltenberg World Championships spring to mind...

Also, how about an "adopt a roundabout" type of scheme........such as "This toilet block is sponsered by G4S Security"....that would seem to be appropriate

Having read the BGM and the AGM minutes I'm staggered. (and amused by the Trench Experience/Hut 103 chump gobbing off and then being forced to publicly admit he's paying off a £1500 debt at £4/month or whatever it was) How on earth does the NRA still exist?!

The headline facts and figures the management presents are good, in that there's more efforts afoot to run the organisation as a pure business, while stemming the losses. They also seem to have addressed the whole satff contracts, lack of training, financial chaos and health'n'safety issues, which is good - though I'm very worried by the mention of a police investigation into the operation of the NRA armoury and the "came within hours of being shut down by Guildford Council" parts.

On the other hand, the devil seems to lie very much in the detail. Why are they being taken to industrial tribunals in the year 2012? Why did Baker Tilly (the accountants) resign and why aren't the NRA pursuing them? There are a lot of implications there, but thanks to English defamation law I cannot spell them out.
I write words for money - but not here. If you think my words here are written to the same standard as my words for money elsewhere, you're wrong. Have a nice day.
