Why no political wing at the NRA

#1 Post by honsu »

So why dont the NRA get involved on a political leval?

Would it be a good idea for the NRA charity to split from the governing body so they are to seperat bodies?

You split it up, then you join it back.
You split it up, then you join it back.

You do the hokey kokey and you turn around.
That is what its all about. Hey!

After having a quick skim of this document http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/pub ... s/cc9.aspx it appears you can be a Charity and Politically active.
D1. Can a charity carry out campaigning and political activity?

The short answer

Yes – any charity can become involved in campaigning and in political activity which further or support its charitable purposes, unless its governing document prohibits it.

The NRA represent and promote 'target' shooting, not 'all' shooters - so it's not really appropriate or practical for them to be political...and personally I'd prefer that they aren't...

...maybe, a seperate body/organisation to handle politics and PR, that associations can sign up to, to represent the common ground of all associations?

I get dizzy going round this track so often.

You've hit the nub of it again Dougan.

That is the key reason why the NRA is so unpopular with shooters. Its remit is too limited and as I've said before often its shooters and gun ownership that needs representing not disciplines.

However we struggle with what we have in the vain hope that it will get better, unfortunately with the NRA it just keeps getting worse, it can hardly pay its way even with the best shooting facility in Britain let alone represent anything other than the narrow vested interest that seems to be able to keep an iron grip on any development.

Looks like a fur coat and no knickers.

Even more removed from shooters and gun owners.

I don't want an organisation to represent the bodies, I want an organisation to represent me!!!!!

Is that too much to ask?

I am still unsure as to what the BSSC actually does, I have looked at the site on many occasions however it is seldom if ever updated, some of the links are out of date and I am yet to see something tangible come out of it.
