Re: NRA forum closing

#21 Post by artiglio »

Good morning people,

Couple of pence worth of my opinion,

No idea of what the problem is and don't really care, in the big scheme it's a minor inconvenience.

The subject of the NRA certainly raises, strong and deeply held views on both sides, I assume that one party feels the other has gone too far and objected.

Christel as the "forum owner" (not a term I like, but best I can come up with) tries and is admirably successful at keeping things ,to my mind , polite yet sufficiently contentious to be both informative and entertaining. When things go astray, closing a topic is a simple and hopefully temporary solution while matters are addressed. Especially if legal action is threatened, again I assume that the aim of the forum is to give something to the shooting community and to be on the wrong end of legal action in the process can hardly be welcome.

Though in my view , threatening legal action to a forum owner for the views posted on it seems a bit rash.

Fingers crossed all is sorted amicably and normal service is resumed.

Lots of assumptions and guesses in the above, with luck I've offended no one, if I have then, sorry. I'm happy to receive reasonable levels of mockery, abuse , rebuke and criticism.

Happy days, phil

Phil,

Two different matters here I think.

Chrystel will put us straight I suspect

PM sent.

Is there a distinction to be made between the NRA as a body (corporate?) and an individual?

It is suggested that an individual in NRA has taken some action against a poster on the forum. I would suggest that the NRA as a body could only act in accord with its constitution. If a member has infringed that then appropriate action can be taken.

If an individual has taken some action then surely it should not be the NRA that is penalised but that individual. Hence my earlier point that no action should be taken against the NRA (such as locking its forum area) unless it is proven (against what criteria I'm note sure - perhaps against its constitution) to have acted inappropriatey.

I would have to say that overall I find FBUK a very tolerant forum. There are several very popular forums where threads get locked down and people even get banned and ejected for disagreeing with the forum owners. Now that's harsh!

We can speculate all we like about the reasons behind the locking of the thread but we simply don't know the facts.

If you wanna have a pop at anybody it should be the NRA for not taking up the offer of a "slot" on FBUK and using that to their advantage rather than the admirable actions of Karen, Ian et al who have tried their very best!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Symptomatic of a power struggle at the top, maybe???
The NRA is really a poor shadow of what it ought to be. How very sad when open and honest discussion is prohibited.
I hope our NRA ladies are not adversely affected.
I would have hoped that the NorthernNRAGuy (or other Regional Reps, whoever they might be) would enter the fray on our behalf, but I doubt that he/they would have the stones to do that! I'd like him/them to prove me wrong.
Sorry to be so negative about the NRA.

Roger, all of the General Council are working to make the NRA a better place, but it will take time. Everyone has their own individual views on what needs to be done, when and how....however we must not forget that whilst doing this we need to keep the lights on. So to answer your quote..yes we do enter the fray , regularly.

I wouldn't ....all communications from me go via email and not via this forum.

I made the previous comment just to let some of the forum viewers understand that we are all doing what we can. There will be no further comment from myself on here, especially having just read the deflamatory comments about myself posted earlier in the year .

So you're taking your bat and ball and buggering off, rather than staying here to correct the mistaken impressions that others have of you and what you do?

As someone who deals with this sort of thing for a living, I politely suggest you may wish to stay around. Once the initial burst of flak dies down you will probably find people start listening to you and taking away a positive message.

Guy, It has already been made perfectly clear just how insignificant this forum is to the NRA, we are truly nothing in the great scheme of things, however we do get 1100 unique hits per day, that is 1100 unique visitors, some NRA some not and they will find this eventually.

Now on the subject of derogatory comments, you a joined, you made one post and you walked leaving far more questions open than closed, now you are very welcome to stick around because some of us are very pre NRA and I include myself in that group and so far we have enjoyed a reasonable level of communication in this forum from the NRA. So are you going to continue to post and fight the NRA corner or have we seen the last of NRA comment from ALL quarters on this forum?

Personally I believe very strongly that the NRA can play an active part in this forum and to an end as well or would you rather use the 66 page Blaze publication that is a weal shadow of the former NRA publication to act as the sole voice of the NRA outside of Bisley?

Guy welcome to the forum I live and shoot in the North East of England and I would love to hear your views on how we as shooters can help and support the NRA to better serve the shooting community and how you as our rep propse to do that.
But you need to talk to us this forum is a ideal place to get to know some of us there are a lot of us on here 1100 of us vist every week and its growing.
We dont all ways agree with each other some times we over step the mark I freely admit to being guilty of that but we are all adults and all shooters at heart.
I am dissapointed you wont comunicate with me unles I send you a email poor show my freind poor show.
