As far as support for the regions that is a difficult, yet very important, question. I believe that shooters should have access to both their Regional Representative and any General Council members in their area. I do not think that the NRA alone is the panacea to all the problems that the regions face, it requires dedicated movers and shakers in the locale to make things happen. What is needed is clear and open support for those that are prepared to work for their clubs, be it in finding funding, encouraging youth shooters or dealing with local sports councils.

Access to MoD Ranges appears to be a problem with varying experiences across the MoD Estate, be in no doubt that access for civilians is not a right, although the NRA do have contact with those that make policy and they are engaged when problems occur. Local issues are ultimately up to the local MoD management, however, I believe and would expect the NRA to assist where possible. Provided the local clubs are prepared to work with the NRA and the MoD most issues can be resolved; the modern MoD work to very prescriptive rules and regulations and, whilst rigid the interpretation of those rules and regulations in a civilian context are greatly influenced by the NRA's input, the MoD have the final say. The NRA input should be open and unambiguous to the NRA membership.

I hope that makes my position clear.

John,
Should there be any difference in the voting rights and membership privileges between shooters who are members of affiliated clubs and those that are direct members of the NRA?

Sorry to ask, but it is a big gripe of mine...

My personal opinion is that each paid up member gets a vote. I'm not sure but I would expect that if a club is affiliated then it gets a vote. If that were not the case my current view would be an affiliated club gets a vote but only one vote; why should it get more?

If an individual wants to have a say they should join as an individual NRA member, I'm assuming that all club affiliates pay the same subscription, they could be allocated more than one ballot paper but it has to be proportional to the support they give to the NRA. If you are not "In" then don't expect to be allowed to influence policy and strategy.

Whilst I am prepared to support and speak for any shooters of whatever nature you should in return support the organisation that you want to support you. Collectively we have a better chance of influencing the national (not exclusively shooting) policy and strategy makers be they central or regional government; there is not so much mistrust of what we do it's more a complete misunderstanding and un-education of target shooting sports; the NRA nationally and locally should champion our inclusive sport.

Target Shooting Sports are varied and diverse, they include niche marmite disciplines as well as traditional purist pursuits. I'm open to all and have experienced many, some I like, some not so much; whilst something might not be my cup of tea, as long as it's well run and has a dedicated following it will get my support.

I hope that helps, if it didn't please PM me and I'll try to answer your questions on my views on a more personal basis, alternatively ask more specifics here.

John,
Thanks for your candid response. I sincerely hope that everyone reading this appreciates your sincerity an obvious commitment/service to our sport.
p.s
Still think that affiliated membership should be the same as personal membership

I was just mulling over the ballot papers, didn't recognise Steve E's picture, he looks he's having a police mugshot picture! But he seems prepared to challenge the established order when needed and is a generally good chap.

The only other person who immediately struck me as worth voting for is the RN bod, and only now have I made the connection that he is here.

So that's two votes, anyone care to suggest anything about other candidates that would make them worthy, or otherwise, all opinions welcome but I will make up my own mind.
Careful now/that sort of thing

I agree. One of the more stupid decisions I've seen over the nearly 20 years I've been a member of the NRA. I'm boycotting the new system, because as an IT specialist, I consider the new system has been designed and implemented with insufficient thought to security. It is clear the NRA has no clue about such IT matters, and despite making repeated attempts to speak to the responsible partiers within the NRA, they have not been courteous enough to return my calls, so they are not interested in rectifying their error, unfortunately.

Luckily I have other clubs where I am a member, so can establish good reason to possess elsewhere. Not all are so fortunate.

Had a thought . . .

Since only John MH and Steve E are on here (although there could be others masquerading under a pseudonym), it might be a good idea to invite the others to join. Some of the candidates may not even know this forum exists so it might be seen as an advantage to John and Steve.

Dromia - might be a good idea to ask the NRA to email the other candidates to see if they want to comment here?

Love
