Wanted - a couple of small compression springs

#1 Post by Ovenpaa »

I am after a couple of compression springs and am struggling to find suitable items at sensible prices or suitable quantities.

I need a maximum OD of 15.5mm with coil thickness of around 1.2mm to 1.6mm or something fully compressible between finger and thumb, they need to be around 35mm uncompressed. The absolute minimum ID is 12mm

I can compromise to a degree on any of these measurements so if you have anything lying in a draw please do let me know.

Many thanks

David

I will as a last resort, it is just that these are slightly on the heavy side to wind my own, having said that I have the tools and some heavy leather gloves.

Thanks Andrew, RS Comps is an option if all else fails.

Send me the part number and I'll see what I can do :-P

I cannot find what I really need on RS so I found some piano wire and wound my own to at least prove the concept of the tooling I have built. I still need to find a supply of the proper job but at least I have a better idea of the number of coils, free length and gauge of wire.

Hello Dave,

I have the following in stock;

OD 15.9mm, ID 13mm, L 64mm, Wire thickness 1.4mm
OD 13.6mm, ID 11mm, L 124mm, Wire 1.35mm
OD 13.9mm, ID 11.75mm, L 76mm, Wire 1.1mm
OD 12.3mm, ID 10.4mm, L 70mm, Wire 0.9mm
OD 11mm, ID 9.1mm, L 128mm, Wire 0.9mm

I will have a closer look on monday to see if we have anything closer to what you are looking for but the ones above I can lay my hands on now! The length can be modified easily with a bench grinder or a pair of decent side-cutters.
If you want any they are free (shush :squirrel: ) and I will put them with the stainless rod.

Afraid not going to be at Barton but can post them to you if you want. How many of each are you after?
Here's a good source for future reference www.leesprings.co.uk
You can sometimes get away with asking if they will send you a couple of springs for 'evaluation' purposes
-they usually send some out foc :good:
