Forces asking certificate holders to keep fired cases

I mean, just where is this going to end? No, don't answer that ....... I think I already know. I understand that the police face a very difficult task on a daily basis, but is this really going to help? I would be VERY surprised if the answer was YES.

Does it help them solve a crime? Unlikely... But I think refusing something so simple would only give a bad impression of the firearms community as people who refuse to help police. It is a 50/50 game as to whether it will be seen as bending over and taking it so they will try and push more on us, or whether it will be looked upon thankfully and so we will be seen in a better light when we fight something else.
Personally, I think we are too weak of a community to fight everything that comes our way (lets be honest, there is a lot of it) and we should choose our battles!

One thought - let's say one of us had a firearm stolen and it was used in a crime where a fired case was discarded.
The Police have the sample fired case we've given them and so they match it to the case from the crime scene and now know it's our gun that's been used in the crime.
How does that help them catch the criminal or take that gun off the street?

It does nothing to help prevent the subsequent crime (after the theft of the firearm) or the detection of a crime. What it will do is help the police once they have found a firearm to identify it and that's only if they cannot find the serial number. All crimes committed with that firearm will be linked by cases found at the scenes but the original owner having a similar case won't help them at all.

This is just bo...cks and is all about controlling us and making us as owners more accountable for no reason nor increased safety to others.
This has been doing the rounds for a couple of years now, it was bo...cks then and is still bo...cks.

It is well documented that cases recovered from crime scenes have, when then linked to a subsequently recovered firearm, have certainly aided in solving previous unsolved cases.

Don’t underestimate the value of such forensic evidence.
