Does anybody on here have a sea going boat and have a signalling pistol? What is the law regarding them?

I deal with these for a large local airport and these need to be listed on FAC for the operator to use, they are 37/38mm and have a chamber insert for 12ga. Ammunition is also controlled as S1 for various reasons, mainly a single projectile, but some are explosive. These are pistols designed as signalling devices and converted or adapted to be bird scarers.

In theory it is possible to get them for farmers and estate managers for bird scaring where a traditional shotgun is not practical but I have a client that is looking to get one for this very reason and is having trouble.
Check out HO Guidance Para 6.57-6.59, 13.65 and also Appendix 3 Para16.

ETA: if you want it solely for signalling on a boat I think the FAC (or variation) is free.

I will get the boat owner to try that

Thanks

Would rocket flares, easily available and requiring no licence, not be a better option?
