What a load of tripe!

If Bisley is too far away, then waht about the cycling that will take place in North East London?

And one comment made about India's suggetion they may boycott the games was that "it penalises other athletes" well surely not having shooting penalises athletes too.

"But in a statement, Birmingham 2022 chief executive Ian Reid said the proposed location for shooting, at Bisley in Surrey, "offered little or no benefit to the West Midlands"."

Weren't the 'Teletubby village' shooting facilities for the 2012 games immediately dissassembled once the event had taken place?? Where was the benefit for London then? teanews

"Shooting scored highly on some of the key criteria and the Panel recognised the committed and enthusiastic submission from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), the International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations (ICFRA) and British Shooting (BS).

However, the Panel determined that the proposed location for shooting at Bisley in Surrey offered little or no benefit to the West Midlands, in a Games with a significant proportion of funding coming from the region.

The Panel did offer the opportunity for the sport to submit an alternative Birmingham based proposal – most likely two disciplines in one Birmingham venue – but the ISSF, ICFRA and BS would not submit a proposal that did not include all four disciplines in a single Bisley-based venue.

As a result of this review, Birmingham 2022 proposed adding three sports – women’s cricket, para table tennis and beach volleyball – all of which can be staged in venues in Birmingham or the West Midlands, bringing additional benefits to a region that is providing substantial funding for the Games.

It was also felt that these three sports would bring a young and diverse audience to the Games, helping to enhance the existing programme and reach new audiences, while showcasing the sports to the local community, spectators and fans across the world, watching on TV."

So now you know.............I can imagine the "panel", various jobsworths, sucking through their teeth at the very suggestion of one event being held south of the M4..............

What beaches are there in the Midlands?

Surely the Commonwealth games is about the country hosting it. Not the bloody city! It is extremely disrespectful to not include a sport because it might bring some money into another part of the country! We are the UNITED Kingdom. We are not at war with other parts of the country. Why can't we act for the benefit of everyone instead of throwing toys out the pram because "oh we are paying for most of it so why should you get any credit...."

So Bisley "offered little or no benefit to the west midlands" so how about the cycling

"Birmingham hosts the Games in 2022, but track cycling events are set to be held 130 miles away at Lea Valley Velodrome in London. Neither Birmingham nor the wider region has a velodrome venue."

Unlike the (dropped) proposal of preventing schoolchildren from receiving free tickets to the London 2012 Olympic shooting competitions, at least we can rest assured it has nothing to do with shooting being the "wrong type" of sport ... Oooooh absolutely nothing to do with it .... O:-)

And throw in the selfishness too ...

London 2012 used facilities throughout the UK including Coventry and as far as my geography goes, Coventry is in the Midlands. London spread the Olympic events around so why are Birmingham refusing to do the same? And Londoners are still paying the additional "Olympic Precept" on their council taxes.

I wonder what investment would be needed to satisfy the Brummies to let Bisley have it? Maybe a crowd funding exercise from the shooting community would solve the problem!
