Re: Simple spooting scope system
I've been thinking about inverting this - instead of putting the camera on a scope, for our indoor range we could, conceivably, install cheap wifi cameras close to and pointing at the target area, and control them from phones at the firing point. Obviously not portable like a scope based solution, but wondering if anyone has tried this on a small range?
I've been looking at cameras like :https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CVDZ8R7/ ... B07437XNQH
At £40 a pop it looks like a cheap way to upgrade a small indoor range
If I'm reading the spec correctly would just need phone, power and a wifi router to use (no internet access required or desired).
Thoughts?

I did something similar with tethering a mobile phone to my tablet.daman wrote:I've been thinking about inverting this - instead of putting the camera on a scope, for our indoor range we could, conceivably, install cheap wifi cameras close to and pointing at the target area, and control them from phones at the firing point. Re: Simple spooting scope system
Nice job @1066!
That's pretty much what I imagined, but I'd use fixed indoor cameras instead of tethered phone for the optics, and then a phone at the firing point instead of a tablet. (although you've made me think some cheap dedicated tablets at the fp might be worth investigating).
Ain't technology wonderful!

Re: Simple spooting scope system
This is becoming monumentally difficult.
I have found away of sideloading apps on this damned google android monopoly.
I have installed three camera apps so far and none of them have worked with the usb camera, they work with the tablet cameras, some recognise the camera when it is plugged in but there is just no image visible.
The camera works fine when it is plugged into the PC.
What the feck is going on?
Anyone?

Have you got an OTG adaptor? You need one between the Camera and the Tablet.dromia wrote:This is becoming monumentally difficult.

If you go into settings on the tablet, check to see if there are 'device connections' options. If so, you may find a USB Connectivity option you need to activate.
If I am using a USB Endoscope connected to my phone then I need to do such actions each time.

Re: Simple spooting scope system
That was the easy bit, I even had one before I got this abortion of an android machine. I actually now have three OTG cables.Triffid wrote:Have you got an OTG adaptor? You need one between the Camera and the Tablet.dromia wrote:This is becoming monumentally difficult.

I have been through settings umpteen times and nothing like that.RDC wrote:dromia wrote:This is becoming monumentally difficult.

Re: Simple spooting scope system
I find the whole Android / OTG / Webcam thing is a bit variable and understand your frustration!
Try plugging a mouse into the OTG adaptor - if a mouse-pointer appears on your tablet screen, then OTG is working at some level at least. However I've got a tablet which passes this test, but if I plug the Targetmaster webcam it, it still doesn't work! It's not helped by all the adverts and other crap on Camerafi. . . Anyone tried a different Camera app.?
