Re: Simple spooting scope system
Is it also partly due to the contrast between dark and light. I seem to remember the extra shade at the transition between the dark and light areas of the moon is always clearer. Years ago when we played with 6" Newtonian we used to have to add filters for viewing the moon otherwise it was just too bright.

Re: Simple spooting scope system
After a brief diversion into astrophotography (my fault!) it's time to get this project back to the purpose for which it was designed.
I was at Bisley today and hoping to get some pictures of marked targets at 600 and 1,000 yards. Unfortunately it was freezing cold with a wind gusting to 27mph, and although my trigger finger stilll worked it was too cold to operate the camera software. The buttons and sliders on a 7" tablet are just too small.
So we need to add another item to the project list - a touchscreen stylus.
Or wait until it warms up a bit ...
