After multiple attempts over several months I have finally had a reply from my MP. I asked him to support the amendment that removes the ban on .50cal rifles.

"Thank you for this email, and for raising your criticisms of this aspect of the Offensive Weapons Bill.

I have to say that I am not an expert in this area, so I will need to learn more in order to fully understand the implications of the Bill and its suggested amendments. I intend to attend the reading, and will be taking time between now and then to read relevant briefing material (including the document which you have kindly attached)."

Not much, but better than nothing.

Also shows a staggering ignorance or indifference to what is going through parliament!

More Stupidity !

"Rifle Range Loophole is a gift to terrorists .

The home secretary, Sajid Javid, is facing criticism after failing to close a loophole in the law that police chiefs warned “provides an easy route for terrorists to access firearms”.

Senior anti-terrorism officers are furious the Home Office has failed to heed warnings that current legislation exempts some semi-automatic rifles from the UK’s strict gun controls.

A briefing from senior national anti-terrorism firearms officers, sent to the Home Office, called for the repeal of the law, which exempts certain rifle ranges and gives members of the public “immediate access to firearms and ammunition”

Labour has tabled an amendment to the Offensive Weapons Bill tomorrow , seeking to close the loophole .

Full story in todays Sunday Times , if you bought it or have a subscription .

The story quotes Section 11(4) .

4)A person conducting or carrying on a miniature rifle range (whether for a rifle club or otherwise) or shooting gallery at which no firearms are used other than air weapons or miniature rifles not exceeding ·23 inch calibre may, without holding a certificate, have in his possession, or purchase or acquire, such miniature rifles and ammunition suitable therefor; and any person may, without holding a certificate, use any such rifle and ammunition at such a range or gallery.

So it seems they want this section removing .
