Here's a pic of the rounds that were developed for it.....surprisingly the 7.62x122 round is rimless.

Isn't the calibre a bit small for anti tank? I mean no room for piercing core or incendiary
The lion cannot protect himself from traps, and the fox cannot defend himself from wolves. One must therefore be a fox to recognize traps, and a lion to frighten wolves.

The concept was similar to the German 7.92×94mm anti-tank cartridge originally developed for the Panzerbüchse 38, they used a tungsten core for better penetration.

The Mosin variant was only experimental and the idea was dropped in favour of the 14.5x114 PTR-D and PTR-S anti-tank rifles, the original "BS" armour piercing incendiary round had a 993 grain bullet with a 597 grain tungsten core that could penetrate 30-32mm of RHA armour at 500m or 40mm at 100m.Later other projectiles were added such as APT and APIT and the round is still in use today in various heavy calibre mg's and anti-materiel rifles.

Their effective use as anti tank rifles was quickly superceded by advances in German armour but they found a new use during the Battle for Stalingrad and beyond as both PTR-D and PTR-S were retrofitted in the field with scopes and used as anti sniper rifles, often shooting through brick walls etc to hit hidden enemy snipers and also against soft-skinned vehicles such as supply trucks as well as horses!.The semi-auto PTR-S (the "S" stood for Simonov) action, bolt and bolt carrier were actually later scaled down to create the 7.62x39 SKS carbine.
