probably .243 as thats what he has used in the past, its not so much the calibre, its the bullet, frangible varmint bullet at high speed it explodes on impact causing massive destruction, and makes up for any slight inaccuracies, not a round to use on a body shot, but for park deer its a relatively common useage.

Cheers Kenny.

I saw one the other day where a guy shot at a deer with a 50BMG, he missed but the deer dropped like a stone.

He didn't miss- it's BS.

If you're interested, check out Mythbusters and Demolition Ranch debunking this sort of urban legend about the "shock wave" of a 50BMG and it's effects (none if not actually hit by bullet).

They fire a 50BMG between wine glasses and even through a gap in a house of cards, without disturbing anything.

Whizzbang - so why so little damage? I'd have thought that a .50 would mince an animal given the wound channels it creates..

The bullet needs to hit something that's hard enough to cause the bullet to expand and therefore impart its energy into that object, don't think that a deer is substantial enough unless major bone is hit

Yes I understand the physics - just strange that if they did hit the deer there was so little damage - you live and learn every day. :good: .
