Seemingly the wound channel on a 50 when it hits a human is bigger then the body itself..so one would expect some damage and blood spray.

In the absence of entry / exit wounds, all I can think of is a splinter from the tree behind ( which seems to have been impacted ) entered the brain.

Something certainly killed it....that's for sure. Videos of a 50 shot over water doesn't appear to give any appreciable "ripple effect" - certainly not enough to drop a deer.
