Can't argue with that statement.

Boris is an utter cockwomble I'm afraid, those of us living in London at the time he was Mayor saw enough of that.

Very good reason for this! While the infection rate was high, the difference between quarantining incoming people and not was negligible, so it was seen (by experts who are advising, not by Boris himself) that it was not worth introducing at that time when resources are limited at the moment.

Now that the infection rate has dropped, resources are more available etc. it becomes more viable and effective to quarantine incoming passengers.

A lot of people online like to claim to be more knowledgeable than the experts and condemn the decisions that have been made without all the facts. But this is very rarely the case!

Pippin89, I am not sure how asking people where they are staying and telling them have to stay there for 14 days is resource intensive, as that is all this current proposal is said to be.

Other countries were doing it quickly, for example Malta.

Introducing it now when the number of people coming in to the country is down by 90 plus percent is better than nothing but does feel a little late.

Can you link to some articles written by epidemiologist that show that introducing this type of quarantine in late Feb/early May wouldn't have helped flatten the curve and would have used up more resources?

Asking people where they are staying and telling them to self isolate for 14 days has been done since day 1! Enforcing it is the new plan and that is the resource intensive part.

The reason its being done now, is that as we start to reduce transmission rates in UK, there are other parts of the world that are behind us in that curve, so we don't want people coming from those areas behind us in the curve and thus helping to re-start another wave too soon.
