Reloading die

If you are making it or modifying it, repairing it or restoring it, it goes in here.

Reloading die

#1 Post by Alpha1 »

A question for you reloading dies are they cut with a normal chamber reamer.

Its no secret I am a fan of L.E.Wilson neck dies or anything made by L.E.Wilson.
I have a couple of projects in mind.
I would like to make a 6.5 Creedmoor L.E.Wilson neck sizing die.
A .303. Lee Enfield die.
A 7.62x45R Nagant die.
I tried running a 6.5 Creedmoor finishing reamer into a Redding body die and that does not work.

Can I use a normal finishing reamer .

If you want to make a Wilson-style hand-die for neck-sizing only then a normal chamber reamer will do. Same with a bullet-seating die.

These don't need to be hardened and a bit of old barrel stainless is ideal.

However, a body re-size die is another matter - usually made with a 3 thou. under-size reamer and of course it needs to be threaded to work with a press. The finished die needs to be hardened.

Should read 7.62x54R Mosin Nagant. I am looking forward to making that one. Should be able to get on with it next week after I finish the 6.5 Creedmoor jobby. I need to order some stainless round bar stock.
