Xlox/Alox as used for tumbling bullets, it is a coating that was developed for putting on deck cargoed aircraft that were being sent across the Atlantic to the UK from America in WW2 to protect them from sea/salt and environmental corrosion.

Yes, I use a spray version called Fluid Film for lubricating/protecting.

WD40 should not have a place in the workshop, it is a DiY product at best and cannot be trusted as anything more than a dispersant. Certainly not as a rust inhibitor. I do actually use it, but only as a lubricant for a very specific material. Other than that, it is s*** IMHO.

WD40 is one of those things you just grab when you need to do something quickly. It has no specific purpose and no specific weakness. There is always something better for the job, it just requires less thought to grab the WD and get on with it!

WD is too thin and although good for dispelling water it also removed any preservative so in the end it almost promotes rust if the metal is not treated with something a bit heavier after the WD application.

It has a place I think, like when trying to free up some stuck parts, but it also has it's limitations.

Plus-Gas is my first choice for freeing parts.
