"changed the gas tube as the bayo lug had been ground"

Where did you get it, my Suffolk one lug intact...also changed the stock for a tiger stripped one.

I have everything needed to reload the .30M1 carbine but not got around to it yet, thanks for the reloading info may come in handy later. Still have loads of PPU ammo to use.

No problem, and thanks for commenting! Another two important things I missed, is that I used small rifle primers and not small pistol primers. The other thing is that the cartridge has the shape of a wasps waist due to the taper of the case. When you seat a bullet (.308" diameter) the case looks like it is bulging out. This is normal as I believe the sizing die sizes that case with an inner diameter less than .308" in order to add neck tension, and due to the tapered case design it has the consequence of looking bulged.

Pic related, but not mine.

VERY nice indeed. thank you for posting pics and the video. A shooting friend has a genuine M1 carbine before they were banned and said it was one of the sweetest guns he had ever fired.

Update to this thread. The wrist of my stock cracked during an outing back in September so I haven't been able to shoot this rifle until I got that sorted out. I didn't fancy trying to repair the stock as I don't want to ruin the original wood, so I decided to buy a replacement stock. Finding one was a bit of a nightmare, but short version is that I imported a newly manufactured Boyd's stock from the USA.

The stock arrived unfinished, and was walnut. I also ordered a new sling, oiler and all the metal work for the stock. The stock wasn't a 100% fit, more like 98%, so needed some minor wood work. I stained the stock and applied a few coats of raw linseed oil.

I'll make a dedicated thread to the finishing of this rifle (believe in me, I took plenty of pictures and documented what I did!!) :)

I'm really happy with the results; the grain of the wood is just gorgeous! The rifle cycles and functions fine with no wearing on the wood, looking forward to my next range trip with it now.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to say thank you, especially for the FMJ pics as it confirmed that I had not done anything wrong.
Cheers and loving my M1.

well as it's already been necro'd - does anyone lube their 30m1 when resizing? I'm just going through some old brass, that may not have been through my gun anyway, and noticing norma cases especially are VERY tough to resize.

Yes, I have the carbide Lee dies and still lube the cases. They are tapered cases unlike straight wall 357mag so a little lube will help with the sizing process even if you use carbide dies. For reference, I've sized with PPU and Magtech cases.
