Application for a black powder pistol in the uk

#1 Post by J rayner »

Hi gang. I’m new here. I own hunting rifles and shot gun. I also shoot air rifle and air pistols. I am now thinking about applying for a black powder pistol. My question is. Is it possible to own a black powder pistol to shoot targets on farm land where I have permission to shoot. Or will I need to join a range to shoot it on and be able to acquire a pistol. Thanks

if you are shooting over land, the gun would need to be granted for pest / hunting. As unless it is a proper range etc, it sounds like you are just zeroing repeatedly in a field. I doubt any force would grant a BP pistol for bunny bashing, so you would need to join somewhere appropriate.

They are not available for humain dispatch tbh. I just like shooting targets with my air pistols and thought over land target shooting would keep down the cost and travelling time.

Target shooting over land as a good reason to possess would mean that there was a range on the land, that would then require planning permission and all the attendant bother that would go with that. This has been discussed on here before and one discussion is quiet recent, a search will reveal what the implications of target shooting on land means.

For good reason for BP firearms membership of a target shooting club that allows such shooting is the easiest way of proving good reason.

Sounds like joining a club is the only way thanks again for your input. I will have to decide if it’s worth the expense. Or just stick with my air pistols. Cheers.
