Ammo for 6.5 Creedmoor

#1 Post by Tallguy »

I have settled on a Ruger Precision 6.5 Creedmoor with a Hawke scope. Will be shooting up to 1200 yards, target only. What ammo do people recommend I try please? Not into home loading so factory stuff. Thanks.

Not sure about a Hawke scope at 1200 yards. I shot 200 rounds of factory ammo through mine when I first got it. It was mega expensive. Since then I have only ever used handloaded ammo. Its not a lot cheaper but much more accurate.
I have a shooting buddy that shoots his Creedmoor out to a mile. I just steal his ammo when he isnt looking. I pay him back in bacon butties.

Wow....

Brave move going for 6.5 Creed in that case with ever escalating factory ammo prices..... :o

£125/100 now and climbing every couple of months.

Still, its cheaper than the factory 7.92x57 Mauser ammo for my K98k's which is has jumped up another 30 quid per 100 in the past couple of months to £139/100 8-)

Do the decent thing and start reloading shakeshout

Had the Ruger RPR and moved over to a Tikka TAC-A1 and Bergara BMP both more accurate with the right loads.

Personally I use a 139gr Lapua Scenar over 36gr of Viht N150 with Starline cases and a large rifle primer.

My son shoots the RPR out to 1000 yards using 139gr Lapua, 41.5gr of N160, Lapua small primer brass, this equates to approx: 2614ft/s. He regularly (in fact most times) out shoots me and I am using an AI.

I am using 139grain Lapua Scenars with N550. I dont shoot it very often at probably £1.00 a bang. Its getting to the point that I have to decide what I can afford to shoot on the day.

After over 40 years of shooting I am finding my other hobbies a lot less taxing money wise. I am moving away from shooting sellling stuff and slowley generally backing out of the shooting scene.
