Courses of fire in Practical Shotgun

#1 Post by Ballistol »

Looking for some information from Practical Shotgun enthusiasts.
Do some the courses of fire require that you shoot from the weak shoulder?
I ask because I can’t shoot from my left shoulder for medical reasons.
Thanks in advance. :good:

Depends on the style of comp, a full IPSC set of regs wont dictate weak shoulder shooting, although the cof might make it easier/better. CLub level and non strict IPSC rules might mandate it, I try to avoid it if I can.

Because you'd give yourself the home-team southpaw advantage? :p lol

As Thorney said. Proper IPSC Level 2 and above CoF should not have stage briefings that mandate it but the stage may be set up in such a way that it is either easier to shoot weak shouldered or even impossible not to.

At a club level it may be dictated that you need to and to be fair if the club shooters shoot on the PSG circuit they will (or should) WANT to practice weak shoulder shooting. The last match at my club we were just running drills as we couldn't set up proper CoF and at least 6 of the 16 CoF involved mandated weak shoulder shooting. Its a PITA but it needs to be practiced.

If you have an injury and can't do it just make sure the people running it and RO know that (obviously don't wait to tell someone as you're picking up your gun and getting ready to come to the line though!). No decent club will force you to do something that will hurt you and likely result in a safety concern. It will likely mean that your score for that stage won't be counted or you don't shoot that stage but that's just the way it goes.

I've shot at a couple of clubs where they'll use the same plate array 3 times. Once strong shoulder, once as load-one-shoot-one and then as weak shoulder stage.

Thanks for the advice, I think I’ll give it a go and just see how it pans out.
