Haha if only

So would I need land to shoot on as a valid reason to own it? Or would they refuse it on my initial grant? If not both?

If you can use it as a .22 at a club, I see no problem, but may be conditioned for 'shotgun use only' on land unless you do 'have land' if that make sense. The problem arises with it being sec1 not sec2. I'd try my hardest to get some land to shoot personally.

Going back a bit, I would most deffo show your tickets to any club.

Any club "worth its salt" will not take anything at face value, but they will not waste time training you where a test or ability/knowledge will suffice.

I came back to shooting still with my SAAI quals from the mob along with various other "fairly specialised" bits of firearms experience. This is not unique by any means but on paper by all accounts this means nothing which when you do the ROs course makes you scratch you nut a bit to be fair.

I have to be honest I was not given much supervision but much as I do now as an RO, I was kept an eye on.

Moreover, drills/ideas change so I don't think it hurts to re-qual or re acquaint yourself.

I do struggle with the need to work up through the various types IF you are never going to use them. My club don't own a .22, and would never usually shoot at a range where one was relevant, but again, I see the point where you will/might be using one (particularly with the NRA where you can hire firearms for use at the NSC that are not on your ticket) and for a total beginner its good to get confident etc with something that is less likely to bite if you treat it badly.

As regards grants, I simply asked for 3 full bore slots (various chamberings) and was given the lot as they were only ever going to be used on approved ranges while a member of a certain club (but not tied only to shooting with that club).

Either way mate, enjoy.

Ok, finally filling out my FAC on the new PDF form.

OMG!!

Questions please.

Do I have to put 7.62x 51mm or can I just put 7.62 / .308?
Do I just put .308 for the imperial measurement?
How do I put down a moderator?
For type do I put bolt action / semi auto etc?
Is straight pull different to bolt action?
Do i mention rimfire / centrefire for each one?

Bit of a minefield this.

Leave it as open as possible, 7.62mm/.308" is good enough (unless you really want to go the .30cal route O:-) )

Do I just put .308 for the imperial measurement?
No

How do I put down a moderator?
"{insert calibre here} moderator" - simples
For type do I put bolt action / semi auto etc?
Rifle or m/l pistol, etc - firearm type, not action type

Is straight pull different to bolt action?
Not as far as we are concerned on the application

Do i mention rimfire / centrefire for each one?
Not necessary but usually the 22RF is mentioned to distinguish it from all the 22c/f calibre rifles out there, the other types are assumed C/F, unless you want a 17rf etc.

Bit of a minefield this.
Hope this helps.

ETA: Oh and good luck with the application, any alterations/corrections can be done at the time of the visit from the FEO so there is not too much of a problem if you get it slightly wrong.

Mine just says .308 rifle, depends on your force. Also some get away with .22RF covering WMR also.
