First time at Bisley

#1 Post by daman »

Sent off my FAC application last week and in anticipation of it's arrival I went along to a club (HR&PC) day at Bisley. Have to say it was thoroughly enjoyable, the club members were unfailingly friendly and helpful, and I learned a lot, as well as having a lot of fun.

We were hosted by the BSRC and using their Running Deer and Running Boar ranges.

As a non FAC holder I could only fire .22lr on the Running Boar @ 50m - it's an impressive setup with the two headed boar nipping across the gap at 50m. Obviously being my first time I didn't outscore the regulars, but I had the pleasure of beating my own pb three times :-)

Also had the opportunity to observe on the centrefire Running Deer - will hopefully get to try that next time!

An excellent day out, recommend it to anyone whose club can make the arrangements.

Many thanks to my own club members for loans of kit, sandwiches etc etc!

I always used to get a buzz as we drove into Bisley up to the range office and have spent numerous happy hours shooting there. Oddly enough I doubt I will ever shoot there again.

Not so much a buzz as a scream as you run over the dozy buggers milling about that get between you and a free firing point teanews

Hello Daman

Glad you enjoyed it. A few with one of my clubs wont shoot at the NSC and we don't know why? Possibly because of the size of the place or the attitudes of a few they have come across, but these are few and usually easily dealt with so the best advice is find your way round, join the NRA and tear the arse out of the facility (Safely wtf ) and enjoy your new found cash burner teanews

we are in the process of moving and it looks like we are going to end up some 200 odd miles away from Bisley. Right now the existing 65 mile trip has taken an eye watering 5 hours to get home on one evening and routinely takes 2 plus hours. From the new location which is hardly on an arterial route to London I shudder to think how long the drive would take or what state my back would be in by the time I arrived.

Sad as I have always enjoyed Bisley. Daman I wish you every success and many happy hours shooting for the future :p

If you wont be shooting at Bisley do you have a local range you will use. Moving your machinery to a new location will be a bit of a headache I guess.

We are heading a bit further North so I am growing my beard and hunting for warmer socks in anticipation of summer in the frozen waste land that is north of Watford gap. Moving the machinery is not a huge problem however it looks like there is a rather large mill that needs to be juggled into the equation as well as it will be coming from a different location and I rather hope we can get everything to site in one day.

More to follow when everything is confirmed :p
