Help! Lantac or SGC

#1 Post by UKYankee »

Hoping for some opinions please.

Will be getting a straight pull .223 and am torn between the Lantac Raven 223 and an SGC Speedmaster (I like AR style rifles over traditional ). I've shot an SGC Speedmaster and a different varient at my local club but never used the Lantac and don't know anyone that has so was hoping someone on here might have done.

So far it appears to me that the Lantac is much lighter and will be easier to use as a 'run and gun' in various positions (ooh, er missus) whereas the SGC is heavier and more effective at prone shooting but is more accurate.

Thanks
Dave

I'd go for the Lantac Raven, and it is what I will be getting once I have a suitable slot on my FAC!

I'd go for the Raven too, as long as you can get a decent bolt handle attached to the side of the bolt. If you're planning on using it for speed shooting comps you'll get destroyed if you're just using the original T-bar on the back

Yeah, already has the side charger. Below is a link to the 'entry level model' they've just started producing.

Lantac. That is all.

Also consider something from Mark Bradley.

There are 3 WNSC members (that I know of) who shoot AR15s:
Matt - very tall
Steve - well tanned
Dave - old and left handed

They know the competition scene and the rifles used and should be able to help you.

I know Dave, very good / accurate description. He's a nice chap, already told me he didn't like SGC but it was more to do with Bob and less about the actual guns.

Appreciate all of the replies but was curious, the people saying buy a Lantac is this based on actual experiance with the Raven?

Bradders will have some excellent rifles out shortly, new uppers currently being made, that's where my money would be. Don't take my word for it though - pop down to the CSR at Bisley Jan 6th and see what AR's people are actually using in comps.

Lantac kit is brilliantly engineered and their customer service is first class. Paul will make you most welcome and spend time going through the options. Mark Bradley makes a good product but not sure when production starts. Personally, I wouldn't touch SGC.
