Lantac/ straight pull .223
Hi All
I thought that after using Full-Bore to research straight pulls (and I must say finding all the various inputs very useful), that I would feed back on my selection/ experience.
Traditionally a military rifle (Lee Enfields, Nagants, K31's etc) enthusiast I have always lusted after an AR-15 straight pull. With the added bonus that if I opted for a .223 I would be able to use it over land I have permission to use so I would not be restricted to range use additionally it is a bit more useable at the range than a 90+ year old SMLE if I fancy putting a load of rounds down range.
After years of pondering it and saving, I finally cracked after having a go with a friends SGC speed master. I had a great time and decided now was the time. A friend recommended Lantac, so I paid Paul a visit. Needless to say (this is supported by other comments here), he couldn't do enough for me on this first visit. I think I was there for about 1 1/2hrs being showed and explained everything. He really worked hard to justify the cost of the rifles, and needless to say I was impressed. The SGC and the Lantac were were completely different animals. After a fair amount of ummming and ahhh-ing about 3 weeks later I placed my order with Paul. I was quoted a 3 month lead time, however it turned out to be nearer double that. Apparently the border barrel was late; this was quite frustrating but all I can say is it was worth the wait in the end.
All I can say about some of the other suppliers is that they never bothered to reply to my emails, but beyond that I can't comment on their service of product. The product from Lantac is great. When I picked up the rifle, I had cash for a load of the bells and whistles. I really liked it that Paul said sure I can buy QD La rue Harris bipod adaptors but I'd be better saving my money and getting one off the net (which I did thus saving about £100), he could of added a whole load of extras on but was honest and wanted me to wait until I worked out what I wanted of which he said shop around for- this I really appreciated.
Getting some range time end of Jan/ early feb and can't wait for it Anyway, I hope anyone weighing up this type of rifle or even the rimfire version finds this useful! I've included the picture Paul supplied of it so you can see what I went for. The scope and mount are Paul's but I am putting a scope on it as soon as my mounts arrive

So have you actually got the rifle yet or are you still waiting to take delivery?
Good to see that LanTac are keen for you to work out what you need, rather than just fancy on a whim, and therefore save you wasting money on stuff that looks nice but serves no useful purpose.

Yep, I have it now (sat pride of place in my cabinet), just not had the chance to shoot it yet. Really interested in seeing how it goes at paper punching at 100m. Paul gave me what he reckons to be the best load he has made for it yet, so will try some of that. But I also want to knock up some plinking rounds for when we are shooting at fig 11
regards

So if you buy one of these then using handloads won't invalidate the warranty?

I went through almost exactly the same process as you and came to the same conclussion. Ordered my Lantac .223 about 4 weeks ago and told mid March for collection. Let me know how it handles when you've been to the range.

Nope, Paul (correct me if I am wrong) seems keen for customers to reload to stretch the accuracy capabilities, he already has suggested how accurate they are but I guess in regards to warranties, it boils down to reasonable care. For example if the gun blew-up and its appears a fault in the product over an issue with a reload then the warranty applies however, any problems would have to be analysed on a case by case basis i imagine - judging by Paul's service so far be happy to help you if you encountered a problem.dromia wrote:So if you buy one of these then using handloads won't invalidate the warranty?
Re: Lantac/ straight pull .223
Will do Dave, I spent ages deciding on the spec, ended up with the 18" barrel and a 12" rail as I wanted more of a rifle opposed to a short carbine (not that its overly long now but you get what I mean)UKYankee wrote:I went through almost exactly the same process as you and came to the same conclussion. what did you go for and what intended use do you have for it?

Re: Lantac/ straight pull .223
Also went for 18" barrel and 12" rail, upgraded trigger and a JP muzzle break (mainly for the fantastic noise it produces!). I wanted a bit of a blend between easy to move around / light and something that would be accurate out to 400 - 500 yards. One of the main thing that put me off of the SGC's was just how HEAVY they are!

Re: Lantac/ straight pull .223
Thats a fantastic looking rifle
and due to the club im currently in that does not have the capacity for that calibre, i have opted for a .22........ i have also been chatting to paul and have opted for the LANTAC Custom CMMG MK-4 Evolution .22LR AR15 Rifle, i did chose the standard carbine, but decided on the look of there custom job...... I did originally research the s&w 15/22 but was put off buy the how light the rifle was and the polymer body and some of the internal parts ,but then found the cmmg range at lantac, so the deposits been paid the rest of the money is now burning a hole in my pocket.
One of the main reasons i opted for the cmmg was due to the possibility of swapping the upper for a .223 upper or just buy a complete rife, that choice will happen when i have joined a second full bore club and the money permits smile2
