Oh Dear!!
Gun-obsessed 78-year-old hoarded terrifying arsenal of illegal weapons and ammo
Story...
Sad... I'm old enough to remember when having an off ticket gun was a fine only, now we are treated a bit like the way Nazis treated the locals when they occupied their land. He's 78 FFS.
I hear on the grapevine that five on the seven club committee members had blotted their copy book in one way or another, hearsay only mind.
Another bit of hearsay, some guy a while back got the usual five years for having some proper handguns, story goes he was out in six months though.
And for anybody who replies along the lines of serves him right, he knew the rules.....

Seriously? Do you think he's been hard done by?25Pdr wrote:And for anybody who replies along the lines of serves him right, he knew the rules.....
Re: Oh Dear!!
He was a Secretary of a Gun Club that housed sect 7 handguns, lots of them, surely a position of trust, he was not in any way a threat to society.
He broke the rules but if every FAC holder in the UK was subjected to a unannounced detailed search, the prisons would be overflowing.
The possible ways of breaking the Firearms laws are vast and sometimes not understood, there is people being sent to jail for the most ridiculous things like have a few rounds of ammo not allowed on their ticket even though they may have had at one time and forgot they had some left.

OH SHOCK HORROR“There was a deactivated heavy machine gun next to the settee which his adult daughter was sleeping in, pointing at the patio doors”, Mr Blackshaw said
As usual the "what if" card is played again and again - still he was a tad untidy and had he actually kept the stuff under lock and key he may have fared better.
Some interesting comments in the article, and some real dense ones too! Why is there always some moron that bleats "Guns are only made to kill people" when clearly they are NOT!
A lot of hype for a non event story really. As usual it's demonising an inanimate object: more poeple are killed by cars and abortions - and PARENTS - each year in the UK, no one bans them do they!
Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!

Re: Oh Dear!!
The Police are never right.
They are accused of being too heavy handed.
Yet, if some individual managed to get hoid of this handgun ( I doubt it was in his firearms cabinet ) and ran amok, leading to further restrictions on LEGITIMATE FAC holders, we all would blame the Police for not upholding the Firearms laws properly.
Police - always wrong. Always wooly liberals or facist bully boys. Usually at the same time :-)

Re: Oh Dear!!
Its not the Police who are wrong this time - its the courts. He should be locked away for more than 5yrs. Every time a Firearms Cert holder breaks the law like this it strengthens the anti's argument that we can't be trusted.

+1 I have to agree with this statement.nigelc wrote:Its not the Police who are wrong this time - its the courts. He should be locked away for more than 5yrs. Every time a Firearms Cert holder breaks the law like this it strengthens the anti's argument that we can't be trusted.
Re: Oh Dear!!
It's taken long enough for this to come to a conclusion. Heard the story about the club inspection and subsequent house raid feels like years ago.
None of this did Tameside club any good and hopefully the club can now put this behind them and move forward.

As to 25pdr's comment re. unannounced visits leading to the discovery of mass law breaking by FAC/SGC holders? That's the sort of thing I'd expect Peter Squires to claim. What utter s***.
Firearms related legal question? Look here before posting about it.
