Insurance
The other day my laptop packed in due to a mishap and I thought about claiming off the insurance, but at the back of my mind was the thought about insurance for my firearms which now total 8 and soon to be 9 incase fire or theft should occur.
So I asked the good lady from my insurance company about if they could be insured, she asked "did I have a license" where they were kept, did I have a cabinet etc, she put me on hold and went and spoke with the underwriters and came back saying if the underwriters had known I had firearms they would not have offered me Buildings and contents cover in the first place, and because it was up for renewal on the 1st of December they would not renew it!!!!, she did say shotguns would be ok, and I pointed out the Laird of blah blah with a £66,000 shotgun as they dont all cost a few hundered pounds!!. I also said no where on the insurance booklet did it say no firearms etcetc
anyone have similar probs or can point me in a direction of an insurance co who would insure them along with the buildings and contents to save me waisting time telephoning around
perhaps a word of warning for those out there just incase your co try the same thing should you ever claim.
regards

Re: Insurance
I think this has been discussed before and it is best to disclose everything at the time of renewal. Our insurance company know we have them however we use the NRA insurance to cover them instead of the household cover.
I do seem to remember a conversation along the lines of, do you have a licence? OKayyyyy.... Do you keep them locked up as well?

Re: Insurance
I currently ensure my guns thru NewMoon Insurance...the co BASC recommended last year...but I note they now refer to Mellerup's.
I plan to renew shortly ... probably with the latter and will use them for buildings and contents also...provided I can get a decent combined quote for the same level of cover + inflation. I will not take cover from seperate insurance firms...they can try to refer you to other policies. I also note Mellerup's is a brokerage...I do tend to go straight to the main insurnce co...I'll see what quote I can get from NewMoon.
Barclays, my current home insurer were taking the mickey when it come to gun cover.

Re: Insurance
My house insurance is with Barclays and to be honest i've never given it a second thought whether they're alright with guns being in the house. If i remember i might check this out,but dont think i'd ever mention the black and reloading powder i have also.
Re: Insurance
That is one bit I do wonder about as we have a few tubs of black powder and reloading powder in the house. I do wonder what the fire brigade would say if you mentioned your house was on fire and had 2500 loaded rounds and 10kgs of powder in it (Complete with certificates of course)
Re: Insurance
Uberrima fides applies to all contracts of insurance. This means that all parties to an insurance contract must deal in good faith, making a full declaration of all material facts in the insurance proposal.Steve wrote:My house insurance is with Barclays and to be honest i've never given it a second thought whether they're alright with guns being in the house. If i remember i might check this out,but dont think i'd ever mention the black and reloading powder i have also.
Your cover from Barclays is voidable.
